Andreas von Zadow MA Communications

In 1984 he completed his Master of Arts in Communication Science at the Berlin Institute of Technology and has since continuously been engaged in urban development processes. His extensive knowledge in this field draws from various working experiences, such as a 5-year employment at the City of Berlin’s Senate Department for Urban Development, as well as active social involvement in Berlin’s urban renewal. During his time as vice president of the European Academy of the Urban Environment (EA.UE) a first contact with John Thompson was established. Since 1991 he designs and co-ordinates most of the European JTP projects.

Andreas von Zadow is initiating, managing and facillitating large-scale community planning projects in Germany and other Europen Countries. With his expertise in process development, he shapes these projects efficiently in terms of sequence of events, participating key players and detailed framework for each individual event.

He has made major contributions toward the understanding that communication is an integral and integrating key element of urban development. Communication includes participation, interaction, co-operation, marketing, public relations, documentation and information policy, visualisation with drawing and cartoons. With his strategic understanding he is also carrying out graphic design work to support ongoing urban development processes.

Furthermore, Andreas von Zadow has acted as consultant to participatory projects in various European countries as part of the EU-project ECOCITIES from 2002-2005. Currently, he is leading the international Quality Support Group within the EU project SNOWBALL which is consulting the communities of Verona (I), Ludwigsburg (D), Martin and Zvolen (SR), San Sebastian and San Fernando (E) from 2006–2008.

He is a member of the Association of Social Development (ASD), a worldwide professional network of consultants for organisational and personal development. He also is memer of the expert group `Stadtquartiere´ of the `Deutschen Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen´ (DGNB).
