Scarborough Urban Renaissance

Vision Building Process and Local Action plan for the revitalisation of the city of Scarborough. John Thompson & Partners has been commissioned by the regional development agency Yorkshire Forward to carry out an animation and community planning process inviting the public, private and voluntary sector to work together for the establishment of a “Vision for Scarborough” plan and strategy.

Scarborough won the Gold Award in the English Tourism Council’s Excellence in England event for the most improved resort

The community-led masterplanning work in Scarborough for Yorkshire Forward explored how the town functions physically, socially and economically and established a consensus amongst local people and businesses for how it could be regenerated.

The Renaissance Action Plan includes proposals for improvements to streets, squares and public spaces that will alter the image of the town, recreate a living heart and trigger private sector investment.

Scarborough is celebrating once again after winning the Project of the Year category in the International Association for Public Participation’s (IAP2) Core Values Awards 2009.

Scarborough’s entry based on ‘Scarborough’s Future – Delivering an Urban Renaissance’, beat off stiff competition in its category from 12 other projects from across the globe to take
home the prestigious accolade.
