Berlin – KUKQ “Arts and Creative Quarter” in the southern Friedrichstadt (DE) 2007–2009

Berlin is an interational metropolis of art, artists from all over the world live and work here. But still Berlin is missing a central place for the praesentation of all different forms and positions of contempory fine arts as other european metropolises do offer: A place for local and international art, for exhibitions, performances and experiments. This gap is now going to be filled.

Andreas von Zadow is the key faciliator of the interdisciplinary initiative “Initiativkreis Berliner Kunsthalle”.

The action group wants to stimulate the discussion about the concept of this project that is essentiell important for culture and urban development in Berlin. Since May 2008 the group is campaigning the Berlin arts hall.

By order of the “Initiative Berliner Kunsthalle” since February 2009 a team of sociologists, urban planners and cultural scientists started a pre-investment study about the development of a “Creative Quarter southern Friedrichstadt”. It is supported by the Berlin government department for Integration, Labour and Social Issues, by the administrative district Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg and financed from EU. Main aim is to display the perspectives for the Quarter to become a place for art, culture an creativity by means of a participation process. The major intention is to bundle the potencies of the Quarter: cultur and tourism, into an overall concept.
