Heart attack of a City, Reconstruction of L`Aquila (Italy) 2009

A community planning and charrette-based approach could be key to rebuilding L’Aquila after the devastating earthquake in April 09, believe Von Zadow GmbH, John Thompson & Partners, the Istituto Nazionale Bioarchitettura, the Academy of Urbanism, and Joachim Eble-Architektur. In October 2009 they presented their concept to the L’Aquila council.

Exploring Community Planning Methods for Sustainable Regional Planning in India. Auroville being the venue to host an event for about 50 representatives and experts mainly from Puducherry, Tamil Nadu to start up a facilitated, co-operative regional planning process for a fast and uncontrolled growing 3.000 km2 area around Pondicherry city.

A new concept for the ´Central Parade` New Addington (GB) 2009

Community Planning to improve and redesign the centre of New Addington, Croydon, Greater London.
In 2008 an overdimensioned concept for the `Central Parade´ failed by court order in consequence of the endeavour of citizens groups. Croydon City Council decided to continue with the project integrating intensive public participation an assigned the team of John Thompson & Partners. Via workshops and a Community Planning Weekend in October 2009 a regeneration framework for Central Parade is developed which will form part of the Council’s emerging planning framework – the Core Strategy.

Caputh – ´Blütenviertel` (D) 2009

Transformation of an central situated area in Schwielowsee, near Potsdam, which was former used as horticultural farm and industrial object and is now idle for more than 15 years. The project is meant as a model for integrative community planning in Schwielowsee. Participation in the development of a general project plan and in events of public participation as a communtiy planning weekend to initiate an integral investement.

Berlin needs a central stage for contemporary art. The ideal place for it would be the former Flower market on Friedrichstrasse. ECOCITIES (EU-Project) 2002-2005

ECOCITIES is a research project to investigate a framework for sustainable urban development with a focus on the integration of urban planning with a socially and environmentally compatible transport system.

Berlin – Creative Quarter Southern Friedrichstadt (DE) 2007–2009

Berlin needs a central location for contemporary arts. The former central flower market in the Friedrichstrasse could become this place. Andreas von Zadow is moderating the action group that wants do realise a permanent Berlin art exhibition hall at the former flower market and establish the new “Creative Quarter Southern Friedrichstadt”.

Cities for Mobility – Stuttgart (DE) 2010

Andreas von Zadow was the facilitator of the 4. World Congress of Cities for Mobility which was held from 4th to 6th July 2010 in Stuttgart. This year the event focused on economy promoting mobility in cities.
